What sets each system apart
The distinctive features that set both systems apart within the segment.
JTL is the most widespread and functionally deepest e-commerce inventory management system in the DACH region, but among its segment rivals it stands out as the only system with an on-premise core (Windows/MS SQL) rather than pure cloud SaaS.
- A complete native retail stack from a single source - Wawi, PIM, JTL-Shop, WMS, POS, eazyAuction and the Fulfillment Network mesh together without relying on third-party modules.
- Professional warehouse logistics (JTL-WMS with a packing table and mobile devices) that go well beyond the stock management of the cloud rivals.
- Permanently free entry via the Start edition (€0) plus, with over 50,000 customers and 500+ service partners, the largest ecosystem and community network in DACH retail.
- On-premise data sovereignty: the core runs locally with its own MS SQL database, while the competitors are operated exclusively as hosted SaaS.
In the e-commerce segment, Billbee is the deliberately lightweight order-management tool: it centralizes and automates multichannel order processing cheaply and quickly, but it is not a full ERP like Xentral, reybex, plentyONE or JTL and forgoes warehouse management (WMS), manufacturing and true financial accounting.
- The lowest barrier to entry in the comparison group: transaction-based from €9/month, cancelable monthly without a contractual commitment - instead of edition subscriptions from €59-99/month at the full ERPs.
- The highest user satisfaction in the segment (OMR 4.7/5 from 314 reviews) with very fast setup without IT knowledge or an implementation partner.
- Deliberately lean as a pure OMS: very flexible, rule-based automation and 100+ interfaces, but without WMS, manufacturing, CRM and without its own accounting (only document generation plus DATEV export).
- Provider-independent of its own shop system - Billbee sits as neutral middleware above Amazon, eBay, Kaufland, Shopify, Shopware and co., while plentyONE and JTL bring their own shop ecosystems.
Head-to-head: the assessment
Both perspectives honestly side by side – where one system leads and where the other counters.
JTL against Billbee
Billbee is a lean cloud order-management tool for small sellers with a very low entry point (from €9/month) and quick setup, but without real ERP or warehouse-logistics depth. JTL delivers the complete stack including WMS, its own shop and POS, but is in return harder to set up and operate. For simple order processing Billbee suffices; as soon as an own warehouse and multichannel processes grow, JTL plays to its strength.
Billbee against JTL
JTL-Wawi is an established retail ERP with its own shop system and an attached warehouse management system (JTL-WMS) and thereby covers functional areas that Billbee deliberately omits. JTL runs in a classic client/server-based way and is more powerful, but also more effort to set up and operate, while Billbee runs immediately as pure cloud SaaS without installation. Since the switch to editions (04/2026), JTL offers a free Start plan; Billbee, in return, remains the leaner, lower-maintenance OMS for retailers without their own WMS.
When JTL, when Billbee?
The concrete use scenarios in which each system is the better choice.
Choose JTL when …
- Online retailers with several channels (marketplaces + own shop)
- Retailers with their own warehouse and a need for professional warehouse logistics
- SMEs with IT resources or a JTL service partner
Rather not when: Businesses that absolutely want pure cloud/SaaS without a Windows server · Classic B2B/manufacturing companies outside the e-commerce focus
Choose Billbee when …
- Small to medium online retailers with several sales channels
- D2C brands and Amazon FBA/marketplace sellers
- Retailers who want to start quickly and connect the tax advisor via DATEV export
Rather not when: Companies looking for an integrated full ERP with accounting/CRM · Manufacturing businesses and large retailers with very high order volume

DACH compliance compared
DATEV, GoBD, e-invoicing, hosting and language determine practical viability in the DACH region – here both systems directly side by side.
| JTL | Billbee | |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting & data protection | Core on-premise (Windows + MS SQL); cloud only as hosted on-premise (RDP) via partners with DE data centers. | Cloud/SaaS from a German provider, GDPR-compliant; the specific server location is not clearly documented. |
| DATEV | No native DATEV integration; connection via third parties (JTL2DATEV, JERA accounting interface). | DATEV export available; tax-advisor access via account possible (no in-house accounting). |
| GoBD | GoBD via accounting/DATEV interfaces and audit-proof archiving; POS with TSE (KassenSichV). | Only limited - not accounting software; coupling with an accounting tool needed for GoBD-compliant bookkeeping. |
| E-invoicing | ZUGFeRD and XRechnung natively from JTL-Wawi 1.9.6.0 (issuing); receiving partly via add-on solutions. | ZUGFeRD invoice generation supported (from end of 2024/2025); XRechnung is not supported. |
| Language & support | German-language software, documentation (JTL-Guide) and support; large DACH partner network. | German-language interface and support (praised in reviews); primarily DACH. |

Verdict per system
Verdict on JTL
In DACH online retail, one of the strongest and most widespread inventory management systems with high e-commerce depth and a large partner network. The key caveat is the deployment reality: the core is on-premise (Windows/SQL), true SaaS still in transformation.
Ideal for: Online retailers with multichannel sales and their own warehouse looking for a deeply integrated e-commerce inventory management system with professional warehouse logistics.
Full profile of JTLVerdict on Billbee
A mature, user-friendly order-management tool for small to medium online retailers with many interfaces and strong automation - but deliberately not a full ERP. Shines at the easy entry point; limits with accounting and at high order volume.
Ideal for: Multichannel retailers and Amazon/marketplace sellers who want to centralize orders and automate standard workflows - without a heavy ERP.
